Position Opening: Director, AdCare Educational Institute of Maine

Top level management position with private, non-profit substance abuse and public health training and systems development organization. Duties include organizational strategic planning, new program development, fiscal management across the agency; day-to-day supervision of multiple program services.

Requires substantial experience in program management, supervision, intimate knowledge of behavioral health and public health programs, excellent oral and written communication skills. About Us

Scenic Picture of Boats and Flowers The New England Institute of Addiction Studies has been in existence for over 40 years. It is dedicated to the education of professionals, volunteers, and the general public concerning alcohol and drug prevention and treatment issues.
The Institute is the primary organization through which the State Alcohol and Drug Agencies develop and deliver regional educational events. It maintains administrative offices in Augusta, ME, and is directed by William Lowenstein. Several other staff work full or part-time for the organization.

The Institute offers yearly intensive continuing education events supporting workforce development and skill building of the professionals and volunteers who provide services for substance abuse prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery organizations.

The 2012 New England School of Addiction Studies and New England School of Prevention Studies will take place June 18 – 21, 2012, Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine. Click here to visit the program website.

The 2012 (20th Anniversary) New England School of Best Practices in Addiction Treatment is scheduled for September 10 - 13, 2012, Waterville Valley Conference Center, Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. Click here to review the program website. This year's program will include advanced clinical practices, clinical supervision, a DOT SAP course with examination, and an advanced prevention track.

Other Workforce Development Services:

Occasional additional regional continuing education programs and forums of interest to special groups of substance abuse professionals are also offered as needed.

Additional Services:

The Institute provides consulting services to provider agencies, educational institutions, and others, particularly in the design and delivery of educational programming, meeting planning, and the continuing education application process.

In addition to these activities, the Institute has a long history of working with other organizations on projects of interest to the substance abuse field. Some examples include:

The Inhalant Prevention Capacity Building Project focused on identification of geographical areas and special groups of people at high risk for inhalant abuse. It provided: regional task force and materials and strategies dissemination; intensive state strategic planning and systems development in three states; and identification and referral of requests for information and technical assistance to the state prevention systems; and online inhalant abuse training for parents.

The Vermont Adolescent Treatment Service System Development Project provided training and support to five Vermont treatment agencies which are implemented the evidence based practice MET/CBT.

NEIAS was instrumental in providing support for state and regional education, training, and support, to recovery community support efforts throughout New England.

The Institute has collaborated with partners to support a number of international initiatives, including hosting delegations of substance abuse professionals from other countries at NEIAS programs and involvement in international conferences. NEIAS has supported several Institutes on chemical dependency to build an addiction workforce in Asia.

New England Institute of Addiction Studies is affiliated and works closely with:

AdCare Educational Institute and AdCare Educational Institute of Maine, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization that shares office space with NEIAS in Augusta, Maine. It provides services in the areas of prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery for the substance abuse field and other allied public health fields. The Institute accomplishes its mission by providing education, training, consultation, and technical assistance to organizations and individuals on substance abuse related public health issues.

The Addiction Technology Transfer Center of New England, an organization whose objective is to translate and institutionalize current research and best clinical practice in alcoholism and substance abuse treatment in an effort to promote systems development, improve client outcomes, and increase treatment effectiveness in state and local treatment programs.
