ABOUT THE EVENT
The The New England Institute of Addiction Studies is pleased to announce the Eighth Annual New England School of Prevention Studies. For the third year, event is co-located at the 39th Annual New England School of Addiction Studies, with opportunities for attendees to take advantage of both programs. The School of Prevention Studies is designed for prevention professionals from various settings to combine intensive study in an area of special interest with the opportunity to network. The School features keynote addresses and a variety of workshops to choose from, delivered by nationally and regionally recognized speakers. The workshops incorporate a variety of current and emerging research based prevention programming, from core through more advanced skills. This event is a collaborative effort of the New England and New York state substance abuse agencies, CSAP's Northeast CAPT and several other organizations. We invite you to join us for intensive and stimulating studies and networking. We are excited about offering the Prevention School and the Addiction School in the same location for the third year in a row. Participants have the opportunity to attend offerings from both programs, and co-locating the schools offers wonderful networking and combined learning opportunities for participants working in different areas of the behavioral health services continuum. THE PROGRAM The program is a combination of major presentations, courses, and facilitated forums. Courses provide intensive, skill based training in research-based prevention programming for the prevention practitioner or administrator. Teaching Methodology: When teaching courses, faculty members utilize the following modalities: lecture, audiovisual materials, and practical application in experiential activities, group discussions, and case presentations. ABOUT THE AREA
 Situated on 1,200 wooded acres in the heart of the Monadnock Region in southern New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce University boasts breath taking views of Pearly Pond and the famed Mount Monadnock (the second most climbed mountain in the world!). Located near the College are charming New England towns which make for pleasant sight-seeing, fruitful antique hunting, and shopping. CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS All students completing the three-day Prevention Studies program of courses, major presentations, and facilitated forums will receive a certificate of completion for 1.9 CEU's, or 19 contact hours. All students completing a combination of the programs (Prevention School Tracks A & B and Track C of the Addiction Studies School) will receive a certificate of completion from the New England Institute of Addiction Studies for three .3 CEU's, or 30 contact hours. PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION The New England Institute of Addiction Studies, Inc. is an approved NAADAC Education Provider. Through the NH Training Institute on Addictive Disorders, a co-sponsor, this program is pre-approved by the NH Board of Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Professional Practice and NH Prevention Certification Board for CEU Performance Domains and Categories of Competence. This program has been approved for 30 Continuing Education contact hours for relicensure, in accordance with 258 CMR. The New England Institute is a recognized Sponsor of Continuing Education Activities by the Maine State Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors. Attendance at the Prevention School will help toward addiction professional certification in most states, depending on your state's requirements. Application has been made to several professional organizations to accept New England Institute CEU's, including those certifying substance abuse counselors, substance abuse prevention professionals, teachers and social workers. AdCare Educational Institute, Inc., a co-sponsor, will provide contact hours for Nurses (LPN/RNs) through the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Nurses from outside Massachusetts should check with their state and professional associations to verify reciprocity or acceptance. For Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs), AdCare Educational Institute, Inc. is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors (NCCs). AdCare adheres to NBCC Continuing Education Guidelines. To ensure state credentialing, contact your local board of certification. New York participants: The New England Institute of Addiction Studies, Inc. is a New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) Education and Training Provider, Provider Number 0456. Application is being made to NYS OASAS for this school to meet all or part of the CASAC/CPP/CPS education and training requirements. ACADEMIC CREDIT In a collaborative effort with NEIAS, Johnson State College offers undergraduate and graduate level academic credit for some courses at the Summer School for an additional fee of $200 per credit hour. Fact Sheet In addition, some colleges and universities approve the Prevention School program for undergraduate credit as an independent study for students enrolled in their institutions. Check with your faculty advisor.  SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS The New England Institute of Addiction Studies is committed to providing accommodations so students with disabilities can participate in the Program. Sign Language Interpreters and Assistive Listening Devices or other accommodations are available on request. The conference site has wheelchair accessible space available. Please note your accommodation requests, such as ASL interpreter, accessible rooms, etc. on your application form.
CANCELLATION All cancellations must be received in writing at the New England Institute by the following deadlines: SPECIAL NOTE TO AGENCIES PAYING TUITION: Registrations secured by purchase order or agency authorization letter will be liable for the cancellation and refund policy. REFUND POLICY Optional fees are non-refundable. Full tuition refunds will be issued if a written cancellation letter is received at the New England Institute by May 22, 2008. REGISTRATION SUBSTITUTION The New England Institute accepts substitutions for participants who cannot attend the school. All substitutions must be received in writing by June 5, 2008. Written substitutions may be faxed (207-621-2550) or e-mailed (.). Please clearly state who is replacing whom. The substitute is required to send a completed application to the New England Institute at the time a written substitution is being submitted. Substitutes wishing to replace scholarship recipients MUST check with their state agency (or other scholarship source). APPLICATION DEADLINES April 1, 2008: For Special Accommodation requests. For more information about your state scholarship contacts and state scholarship applications, click here or contact the New England Institute at 207-621-2549 or CONNECTICUT RESIDENTS: Connecticut DMHAS scholarships for ALL NEIAS programs are awarded each year in a multi-event scholarship process that begins in February and concludes in April. PLEASE NOTE: Applying only to the school does not mean that you have applied for a scholarship. You must follow your state's scholarship application process and meet your state's scholarship application deadlines. If you apply for a scholarship and will NOT attend if you do not receive scholarship funding, select "Please withdraw if I do not receive a scholarship" on your application form. Otherwise, you will be responsible for your balance due if you do not cancel your application. Requests and applications for scholarship assistance must be made directly to your state agency. Be sure to follow their instructions regarding your state's scholarship application process. Please note that the School application is not a scholarship application. In addition: Send copies of (1) the School application and (2) your state's scholarship application to both the New England Institute and your state agency as soon as possible, to assure your choice in courses. Do not wait until you have been awarded a scholarship to apply to the school.
