YEPP Members 2007 - 2008

Aaron
School: East Grand High School
Grade: Sophomore
YEPP Member Since: September 2007
Coalition Partner: TBD

Some of my hobbies are playing sports, and doing my schoolwork (I'm a bit of a geek). My interests are video game developing, and history stuff like ancient peoples, like Rome and stuff. That's about it for interests. My interest in the YEPP program are I want to be able to help people realize that drugs, and alcohol are bad for you, and that they can ruin your life. I want to be a help for people, and not just sit back and watch stuff happen.

School: Home Schooled
Grade: Sophomore
YEPP Member Since: September 2007
Coalition Partner: Building Communities for Children, Belfast, ME

I enjoy playing clarinet, saxophone, guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, and piano. I plan to go to college for a double major in computer engineering and atomic physics. I decided to join YEPP after realizing how many kids my age drink and how unhealthy it is.

Chris
School: Old Town High School
Grade: Junior
YEPP Member Since: September 2007
Coalition Partner: River Coalition, Inc., Old Town, ME

Hi, I'm Chris. I like to play chess, especially "bughouse". I enjoy playing card games and Nintendo. My favorite animals are lizards and snakes and hope to have a gecko of my own some day. I also do a lot of reading, all kinds of topics. For outdoors, I like camping, fishing and archery. What interested me about YEPP was the prospect of learning more myself and helping others to be more educated and play more a part to stop the spread of alcohol and drug abuse.

Ellen
School: University of Maine at Farmington
Grade: Freshman
YEPP Member Since: December 2005
Coalition Partner: Building Communities for Children, Belfast, ME

I'm a freshman at U-Maine Farmington for creative writing. I hope to use the degree to work in advertising, and greeting card designing, among other things. I work with YEPP because I've seen in one too many examples of excessive alcohol destroying homes, communities, and lives, especially in underage use. I hope to do what I can to take a chunk out of this problem through work in this group, and beyond.

Gabriella
School: Old Town Regional High School
Grade: Junior
YEPP Member Since: September 2007
Coalition Partner: River Coalition, Inc., Old Town, ME

I’m extremely passionate about learning, particularly when topics are immediately relevant to understanding human nature. My favorite subjects include: science, history and art. I am involved in multiple clubs at my school and in my community: Civil Rights Team, Key Club, Envirothon and Youth Action Council are a few. Animals, music, the ability to help people, art, comedy, family and cities are the most vital contributors to my existence and without their balance I would go crazy! I am very enthusiastic about being involved with YEPP because I truly believe in the values that it demonstrates. The idea of youth advocating for the well being of youth is an enormously powerful strategy that is not nearly as utilized as is should be in such an information filled age. Being an active part of such an objective driven group is so uplifting and exciting!

Hilary
School: Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School
Grade: Senior
YEPP Member Since: November 2005
Coalition Partner: Community Coalition of Western Maine, Oxford Hills, ME

Hilary is a senior at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. She is going on her third year as a YEPP member. Hilary originally joined the group because she was upset by the widespread use of alcohol within her high school and was sick of seeing her classmates and friends make uneducated decisions. Hilary is also the president of her school's chapter of the National Honor Society and an active member of the Math team, Respect team, and Drama club. In her free time, she loves to eat sushi in the Old Port, read vintage books while sipping hot cocoa, and attend various theatrical productions.
Kristin
School: University of Maine at Orono
Grade: Sophomore
YEPP Member Since: November 2005
Coalition Partner: Greater Waterville's Communities for Children & Youth Coalition (GWCFC), Waterville, ME

I am a sophomore at the University of Maine, in Orono, I am majoring in History, working on a minor in business and will be concentrating in public affairs, or admin. I am also in the U.S Air Force, Air National Guard. Going to basic training and tech school in Texas the summer of 2007, changed me in many ways. They are funding my schooling greatly and are making my dreams a reality. I am very interested in working on some level of what YEPP does when I get older, maybe in the political arena like our capitol or maybe the nation's capitol, I will have to see. I love being apart of YEPP, I had a lifelong friend killed because his friends were drunk driving and being a member of YEPP helps me to do something about his passing and help to prevent other kids meeting the same fate. I hope everyone gets as much out of YEPP as I have.

Leah
School: East Grand High School
Grade: Sophomore
YEPP Member Since: September 2007
Coalition Partner: TBD

Hi my name is Leah and I attend East Grand School. I like to hang out with friends and go shopping. The reason why I want to be a part of this group is because I want to help in any way I can to help other people understand the dangers of drug and substance abuse. I have been able to help one of my friends check themselves into rehab and since they've been out they haven't touched a drug since. It's such a great feeling to know I've helped someone. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

School: Old Town Regional High School
Grade: Senior
YEPP Member Since: August 2005
Coalition Partner: River Coalition, Inc., Old Town, ME

I am a senior at Old Town High School. I enjoy participating in clubs at my school, especially the civil rights team and the international club. I love art, music, theatre, social activism, reading, and writing. I am involved in a youth action committee in Old Town as well as other community activities. I enjoy volunteering for the River Coalition and the Public Library. I joined YEPP because I thought that it would be great to get to know other students who are interested in making a difference at the community and state levels. I think that teenagers need to come together in groups like YEPP and learn to cooperate with community partners and state officials in order to combat the problem of underage drinking. I'm glad to have had the experience of working with YEPP and I am proud of all that we have been able to accomplish.

I recently turned 17 and am a senior at Kennebunk High School. I play soccer, manage the hockey and lacrosse team, ski every weekend almost, and do barrel racing with my horse. As a sophomore I joined what is called the Captains Club at my school, which is a class about substances and leadership. I learned a lot through that class and have just grown a large interest on making a difference to kids our age and this issue.
